Glacier Watch

Glacier Watch Teaser Image

We've got an inquiry from the Icelandic Institute Of Natural History to help with geological research efforts. Scientists are trying to document the glacial and environmental changes which are caused by the climate crisis.

We're tasked with a flight circling around the biggest glaciers of Iceland, taking photos from way up above. Lots of photos. Your plane will be equipped with special cameras controlled by GPS, mounted at the underbelly of the aircraft. These cams will automatically take photos of all relevant areas once you fly over them.

You're being provided with a flight plan which contains the necessary route. You need to fly high (min. 10.000 ft) to cover as much of the area surrounding the glacier rims as possible. Also, stick to the route as closely as possible. There'll be a couple of layovers for bathroom breaks and cargo pickup and dropoff. You'll start and end the tour at Egilsstadir (BIEG). Your plane will be our venerable Baron 58 which is stationed at BIEG.

Important: Check the weather upfront  - clouds over the glaciers would not be very helpful.

Tour legs

Please note: You can bid for more than one leg at a time, e.g. if you plan on flying several in a row. But to avoid database bloat, we'll cancel bids that were not flown within 48 hours. You'll have to add bids again.
